The IESO provided an update on the bulk system planning and study for the Central-West area to ensure continued, reliable supply to the London area in light of the recently announced Volkswagen EV plant. The Central West Area encompasses the Bruce and Niagara Peninsula and all areas to Windsor. The IESO sought feedback on bulk system study scope, potential growth areas, and any additional information. The PWU recommends that the IESO not use its 2022 APO reference demand case but instead consider the demand forecasts reflected in the Government’s “Powering Ontario Growth Report” and the related supply implications of government’s directed assessment of transmission options for new nuclear and other options in the Bruce and Niagara regions.
